Thunder Bay Serve 2011 is history…

Hello everyone,
After a wonderful week SERVE-ing Thunder Bay, I have been informed that all participants have made it back safely to their homes.
The host team returned to their regularly scheduled work, which (in my case) included dealing with evacuations as a result of the huge forest fires we had here at that moment.
Now that everything has settled back to normal and the residents are returning to their homes as well, I’m now taking some holidays. :)
It also leaves me with a moment to reflect on the wonderful week we’ve had. You SERVE’d in several places, where you brought the light of Jesus where people live quite dark lives.
You cleaned where you were sent, you moved buildings (OK a small one, but still), you stacked wood, collected and sorted food, and served a healthy meal to those who haven’t had one in a long time.
No one complained. You all carried your share of the load, and everyone was quiet in the dorm after 11:05 PM.
By far the best SERVE I’ve had the privilege to be part of.
Praise to the one who made it all possible!
Thanks for your hard work and participation.
Wonderful blessings indeed!
Please come back anytime or, as I truly hope, if you want partake in another SERVE as a leader, or host your own SERVE-site, a piece of Thunder bay will remain in your hearts.
In HIM ….. Paul ‘the doode’ de Oude

All of today’s messages have now been delivered, and the messaging center is now closed. Thank you to all who participated in sending messages. It was the highlight of the day for many.

Many pictures from Thursday and Friday were brought in this afternoon, so stay tuned for them. It’s a busy time right now, but we’ll do our best to start posting them later this evening. We’ll be working into the wee hours to get most of them on line. If you can’t stay up that long, they’ll be waiting for you in the morning.

HAGIIt’s Friday, and we’re all spending the day at HAGI’s Wilderness Discovery Camp for the disabled.  There’s a lot of work to be done, and it’s a great day to spend outdoors. Meanwhile, yesterday’s GIANT adventure pictures have yet to be collected, due to the later than scheduled return back to home base. Not to worry, we’ll include them in tonight’s picture package.   Here’s today’s plan of action.

The weather man is calling for a 22c afternoon, and variably cloudy skies. Absolutely perfect for a bike & hike to the top of the highest cliffs in Ontario. The view from the top of the Sleeping Giant will be nothing short of spectacular. Those choosing to spend their time at the beach, won’t be disappointed either. Let’s pray for a safe and fun day for all.
